Darren Kilfara (IJN; Bid 4.5) vs. Nick Markevich (USN)

The I-Boat Raid and CPO Withdrawal adjustments are in play.

Turn 1
Turn 2
Turn 3

Turn 1

USN Report: As usual the score at the end of turn 1 was +7 POC in favor of the IJN.  Only 1 American carrier appeared in the Hawaiian Islands on turn 1 and based in Australia.  However, five battleships and the 7th A.F. survived the air raids on Pearl Harbor.

Turn 2

USN Report: Turn 2 is in progress with a big battle in the Hawaiian Islands and minor skirmishes in the North Pacific, Marshalls, U.S. Mandate, Coral Sea, Marianas, and Indonesia.

Turn 3

IJN Surrender: So, at the very end, I finally won a single dice exchange! How nice for me. That said, this game has been about as much fun as getting a tooth extracted, so I'm going to go ahead and resign - I suspect I still have a small chance of winning, but it's not worth my time and effort at this point to continue. Congratulations.

USN Report: Darren Kilfara has resigned in our T10 VitP match at the end of turn 3. Darren did not have a very good Pearl Harbor raid as 5 American battleships (and the 7th A.F.) escaped with relatively light damage.

On turn 2 the Japanese attempt to control the Hawaiian Islands and invade Johnston Islands was repulsed by a concentrated American raiding force of 5 CVs, 7 BBs, and 13 CAs. The IJN lost 4 CV while the USN had 2 CV sunk and 1 max-damaged in this battle. Surface losses were relatively light on both sides. At the same time, a single American LBA maintained control of the U.S. Mandate against a small Japanese flottila headed by the Hiryu, and another LBA held the Coral Sea.

On turn 3 Darren tried to again control the Hawaiian Islands and invade Johnston Island, but was stymied by 4 Allied LBA and the 2nd Marines. The Marine unit survived with max-damage after an initial round of day action and prevented the conversion of the base. The LBA disabled 4 Japanese CV, max-damaged 1 enemy CV, and sank 2 Japanese CVL (the Hiyo had failed its speed roll to Hawaii). Darren could only shoot down 2 of the LBA, leaving the USN in control of the Hawaiian Islands at the end of the turn. In the meantime, the British carriers in Indonesia shot down 2 of 3 Japanese LBA before being sunk.

The score at the end of turn 3 was 17 POC in favor of the IJN, but the Allied forces were largely in control of all of the peripheral areas (from the Bay of Bengal to the Aleutian Islands). In addition, an American CV, 2xBB, 8xCA, and the 1st Marines would be based in Dutch Harbor at the beginning of turn 4. With only 4 Japanese LBA available on turn 4, I was again plotting an early invasion of Okinawa (or the recapture of Midway).
