Mike Kaye (IJN; Bid 4.5) vs. Andy Gardner (USN)

The I-Boat Raid, CPO Withdrawal, and West Coast Bases adjustments are in play.

Turn 1
Turn 8

Turn 1

USN Report: Mike and I are playing our match with options 1, 2 and 5. Mike bid 4.5 POC to play the IJN. Mike sunk or bottomed 4 BB's while inflicting medium damage on 2 other BB's with his first round of airraids on Pearl. That afforded him the luxury of being able to target the 7th AF on round 2. He did not miss! He also sunk both of the previously damaged BB's while crippling the TN. Total Pearl losses: MD, WV, AZ, NV, OK, PA and the 7th AF. TN is 5d. In Indo, the 5th AF is sunk but both POW and Repulse get away. I-Boat misses the Hermes. USN rolls groups W and Y into Hawaii so I will have 2 CV' s based in Aust.. POC at normal +7 for the IJN.

Turn 8

USN Report: POC sitting at 18 (13.5 after the bid) coming into this turn. I have patrolled every area on the board, including 15 in the JI. We have a minor, but important battle in the AI as well. The Allies have 13 POC for sure. The AI will determine if the USN needs to control the JI or just decontrol it. The forces:

AI-New Orleans(P), TN vs Myoko(2d)

JI-Monteray(P), Battan(P), Belleau(P), NJ(P), IO(P), Canb 2(P), Exeter(P), Devon(P), Shrop(P), Corn(P), Hermes(P), Repulse(P), POW(P), Boston(1d-P), IN(P), RS, MS, CO(3d), ID(2d), Wasp, CV10, Bunker Hill, CV12, Cowpens, Indep, Lang 2, Cabot, Intrepid, CV18, F-Boat vs 4xLBA, LBA(1d), LBA(2d), Amagi, Unryu, Ryuho, Chitose, Chiyoda, Musashi(8d), Nagato(1d), Fuso(2d), Ashigara(1d), Atago(2d), Nachi(1d), Mikuma(1d)

Interesting note-All eight remaining IJN surface ships have damage. Game is very close and can go either way as you can see. Been a heck of a game, win or lose!

USN Report: Well, it took two days for this email to come through but it looks like the game is at an end. I have it as +17 for the USN this turn. The adjusted POC would be the +18 starting POC, minus the gain (17) and the bid (4.5) for a total of +3.5 for the USN.

IJN Comments: Congratulations.  I still can’t figure out how I lost that game, except since turn 4 I lost all the critical day/night rolls and couldn’t hit much while you seemed to hit to kill with regularity on my CVs.

I still thought I had at least a 80 % game on the last turn, but your night roll against the flag followed up by cleaning all my CVs from the board dropped that dramatically

Haven’t checked the leader board lately, but you must be in the driver’s seat—best wishes

USN Comments: Thanks Mike! I also thought that I was out of this one a couple of times. I would have been forced to shoot at your LBA had a pure day come up on that first round. Not sure I would have lasted long enough to get rid of all of them or not. I needed some kind of night and I just happened to get it. You played very well to setup the winning move but sometimes these things happen. I definately got the breaks at the end.

This puts me at 5-0. I just started playing the ever dangerous Nick (2-1). You are so good at PBEM, especially in this event (Mr. Two-time winner!), that a single loss does not put you out of it. Most of the players have at least 2 losses already. Ed(4-1) is very strong as well. There is still a long way to go in this thing so anything can still happen (I have Ed, Nick, John Sharp and Rob to play). So far, so good.

Best of luck in the rest of your matches!
