IJN Report: The air raids do not go well. The 5th AF is shot down in Indonesia, but both British BB get away (albeit the PoW has 5 damage). It's worse at Pearl Harbor. Were the Americans tipped off? Did they know we were coming? Only three BB were sunk -- California, Maryland, and West Virginia. Another remains on the bottom (when the 4th round turned out to be a night) -- the Arizona with 6 damage. The Tennessee took 4 damage but escaped. Everything else was untouched. The I-Boat whiffed on the Tennessee too. USN surface power will be something to reckon with right away in this game!

IJN gains the standard 3 PoC (for an NT1 game).

IJN Comments: This turn could be summed up as "whatever could go wrong, went wrong." The USN won the fight in the Hawaiians while losing only a single carrier (and, at the same time, sinking four IJN CV). The IJN whiffed against the LBA in the U.S. Mandate only to see the Hiryu sunk. The USN handily saved the NE corner of the board. In Indonesia the IJN gets the flag, but loses Junyo at night without inflicting any losses on the British. The turn was a disaster from which the IJN never recovered.

IJN gains 6 PoC to increase the total IJN lead to 9 PoC.

IJN Comments: I abandon Indonesia this turn (along with any reasonable chance of running up a huge score) to focus on flagging the Hawaiians and converting the U.S. Mandate. I succeed in the first of those two, but come up just short on the latter. Since the effort used all my forces, I pay the price by losing control of areas all around the ocean. The PoC score is a disaster. Without the threat of a KO, I'll be lucky to just hang in for a few more turns.

The PoC is even, leaving the total IJN lead at 9 PoC.

IJN Comments: This turn can be summed up as "I failed to convert Pearl Harbor" despite using virtually every resource available to the IJN. To make matters worse, I also lost in Indonesia -- allowing Singapore and Saigon to flip. That was enough to draw a surrender. This probably qualifies as my worst IJN game ever! Thankfully, I can play again shortly and forget all about this game!
