Andy Gardner (IJN; Bid 3.5) vs. Rob Flowers (USN)

The I-Boat Raid, CPO Withdrawal, Repair Flexibility, and West Coast Bases adjustments are in play.

Turn 1

Turn 2

Turn 3

Turn 4

Turn 1

USN Report: 7th AF, PA, and both cruisers escape Pearl. Andy sinks Repulse and 5th AF in Indo. All FIVE (!) CVs come base at Pearl. Score goes to 7 for the IJN.

Turn 2

USN Report: I totally forget to take advantage of my options, and simply send all three LBA to USM. Andy tempts me in Indonesia, but I rate changes of success at a little less than 10%.

Aleutians - Andy’s CVs can only manage 1d on Yorktown, while in return they sink both IJN CVs and Saesbo!
Marshalls – Australia sunk in Day action.
Coral Sea – night action, Andy misses, while I disable Zuiho and damage/disable Kumano
USM – Andy gets night, and misses while I only manage to damage 2x118 for 1d each
NPO – Day action, Hornet sinks Oi while I-boat misses
Indo – Andy manages to sink two BB and cripple another before I sink Hosho

Andy gains 10 POC to go to 17. I lost no carriers and sunk 3, but gave up a lot of ground. Also, Andy has three CAs escape this turn with 1d!!

Turn 3

USN Report: Andy was willing to let my NE force deny an easy POC in NPO and CPO, but I decide to go for the extra POC in JI instead, also hoping for some attrition. I also send 3 CV to open up a hole in SPO for next turn.

Japanese Islands – night action. IJN damage/disable Idaho, while sinking one CA and disabling another. USN manages to disable Yamato and sink Kinugasa. I don’t have notes on what happened after that, but I don’t think further ships were sunk on either side.

Hawaii – day action. Andy sends 8 bonus shots on each marine, sinking both(!!). He also still manages to down two LBA while damaging another. In return, the USN can only sink Shokaku and disable Akagi and Zuiho. USN runs, and only the NC survives the pursuit, with 6 damage.

Marshalls – Canberra is sunk in a Day action
Coral – Vincennes runs after a Day action
USM – IJN manages to sink / disable both patrollers, while only losing a CA in return

SPO – then the real (non) fun starts. I think Andy was willing to run, but I get a Day action.
1st round, 25th sinks Enterprise, while 3 CVs manage 2 damage in return.
2nd round, 25th sinks Hornet, while 2 CVs manage 1 damage in return
3rd round, 25th disables Saratoga, who whiffs in return.
Andy gains another 7 POC for a score of 24. Pearl falls. Two CVs are sunk for no gain, and very little attrition is scored against the IJN.

Turn 4

USN Report: USN spreads thin in lots of battles, hoping the dice turn around somewhat from last turn. Instead, the dice turn downright nasty:

Indo – The British escape at night.
Coral – Houston is blown to pieces at day, while the IJN invade Guad
SPO – IJN disable both BBs, while USN sinks Mutsu, and d/d Nagato
JI – Suzuya whiffs and gets disabled in return
Mari – over three rounds, the two BBs sink 3 CA (!!) and damage another for 1
While they are both DISABLED in return (Hyuga w 4d)
SPO – disables both BBs, sunk, dam/dis Nagato
Marsh – Round 1 24th sinks Yorktown, both CVs miss. Round 2 - 24th whiffs Lex, is shot down by Lexington. Whoa – you mean they’re not invincible??
Hawaii – Round 1 - 22nd sinks wasp, both CVs miss. I boat misses Saratoga. Round 2 -22nd sinks Saratoga, whiff in return.
USM – Andy gets three days and a D/N
Round 1 - Disable PA
Round 2 - Sinks SD
Round 3 - Damage WA 2d
Round 4 - Damage/disable WA 3d
Round 4 Night - 2x118 disable NM, whiff in return

At this point, the USN resigns. Three more CVs lost, bad surface attrition, Samoa under IJN control.

Good game Andy! Hope I give more of a challenge next time.

USN Endgame Comments: I had an advantage Turn 2 when I lost zero carriers to Andy's 3. Things turned sour Turn 3 when the 25th LBA (with no help from the I-boat) defended the SPO against 3 CV's, sinking two. Turn 4 I tried some risky moves, and they blew up in my face.
