Allied Report: Seven BBs and a CA are sunk at Pearl. Alfred gets a clean sweep
in Indo. Only Group W shows up in the HI, allowing only the Enterprise to base
in Australia. The IB sinks the Hermes. All in all, an inauspicious start for
the Allies.

Allied Report: With not much out of Pearl, I’m not interested in a big fleet fight, so I put 3 LBA in the USM to dissuade any two-area attack. I attack the CPO and AI to save bases. But that turns sour when we whiff against both CPO CVLs and Sasebo, although Junyo is sunk. To cap it off, the Enterprise whiffs on a CA in the CS. Argh#$&*. Alfred sinks 2 CVs and disables my last CPO CV. Midway is lost. The only bright spot is that the AI was a D/N. My CA fleet sinks Sasebo saving Dutch Harbor. POC goes to 15.

Allied Report: Alfred goes for the HI and sprinkles carriers around to protect areas that I might raid from the D Harbor base. I don’t like any of my choices but finally decide I need something that might go my except the HI fight. So I challenge in the SPO and decide my best chance to save the 3 Pearl BBs is to keep them in port. That goes sour though when the first round is pure N. Both marines are sunk. Alfred downs 2 LBA and damages 3 others while my 12 shots gets no disables and only 1 hit for 1 damage. Yuck. I run dooming my 3 BBs. It’s not looking good in the SPO either after Alfred’s first round Day fire. He sinks a carrier, maxes another one and disables the third. But the carriers come through downing both LBA. At least I’ll have the flag when we battle to save Guad on T4. POC goes to 17.

Allied Report: Alfred patrols heavy in the SPO and light in the USM. I repair Saratoga. I risk an IJN heavy raid into the USM and put 5 LBA in the SPO and 1 in the AI to save Attu. Alfred surprises me with only 2 Indo LBA. I expected 3 and none in the Marshalls. That makes my raiding choice pretty easy. I’m probably only 50/50 to take out his Marshalls or HI LBA. I rate Indo as about a 40% chance for me to win the area. But that is not that different than the Marshalls/HI odds and would be a huge win. So I go for it. Wasp makes it’s SR. Whew!! I get D in Indo and SPO which I need. Unfortunately it is also D everywhere else. Alfred’s Indo LBA whiff!! This is a golden opportunity for my guys to come through. And they do as both LBA are shot down on the first round!! Singapore & Saigon will flip!! To rub salt in the IJN wound, the IB whiffs. His carriers knock down two of my SPO LBA but we sink Yokosuka and disable Sasebo to save Guad. With that success we run. In the USM he damages two bonus BBs in the USM before finally being sunk in a N pursuit action. POC goes to 22.
Alfred decides to concede. At the end of T3, I felt Alfred had the advantage, but the flipping of Singapore/Saigon is a big swinger and makes the IJN life very difficult. An exciting game with luck swings on both sides.
