IJN Report: Alfred and I have completed turn 1 of our T10 VitP match. The score stands at +7 for the IJN.
Five American battleships were sunk or bottomed at Pearl Harbor. Three heavily damaged American battleships (West Virginia/4, Tennessee/3, and Pennsylvania/3), both cruisers, and the LBA were able to leave. Location Uncertain groups Y and Z appeared in the Hawaiian Islands allowing Saratoga, Hornet, and Yorktown to base in Australia. The American battleships retreated to Samoa and the cruisers retreated to Johnston Island.
In Indonesia, the 5th A.F. was shot down during the first air raid and Prince of Wales took 4 points of damage during the second air raid. The first round of regular combat was a night action and the British ships retreated without further damage.
The I-boat missed the Hermes in the Bay of Bengal.
USN Report: POC = 7
USN Report: 3 CVs could and did base in Australia T1. I threatened Marshalls block. Nick put 4 LBA in Indo, 2 in SPO and backed up Marshalls. I ceded HI and Indo and attacked everywhere else. 3 CVs and an LBA could't touch his SPO LBA, but my Marianas LBA disabled Sasebo. POC = 11
USN Report: One LBA, Kure, Hiyo, and escorts flipped Phillipines. 2 LBA and the bulk of his fleet tried to flip Pearl. 3 CAs made CPO neutral while the rest of my fleet and 6 LBA saved Pearl. POC = 19
USN Report: 2 LBA and Hiyo prevented Singapore and Saigon flipping. I erred by not making Illustrious a raider, but I made IO neutral with no carriers facing Hiryu plus escorts. 4 LBA plus the bulk of my fleet tried to control CPO, but Yokosuka flipoed Midway during night. POC = 21
IJN Comments: Alfred Wong and I are in the middle of turn 5 (LBA/SNLF placement) in our VitP T10 match. The score at the end of turn 4 was 21 POC in favor of the IJN (without the bid). We started on 1/10/05, but have had some delays because of other commitments and out-of-town travel on my part. However, I don't think we will have any problem finishing by the tournament deadline
USN Report: I lost track of withdrawals and mistakenly repaired Illustrious. Illustrious and Hermes would've been interesting enough against one LBA that Nick might've put a second one in Indo thus weakening another area. Marshalls was too strong with 2 LBA. CPO had too much fleet. 6 LBA and evenly matched surface forces killed Kure and disabled Sasebo with 1 damage in AI. Nick couldn't make NPO neutral. I couldn't make SPO neutral but did take Guadalcanal. POC = 23
USN Report: I should've based both marines in Australia instead of Samoa to counter 2 NLF in Indo. I shouldn't have repaired Prince of Wales. It might've made a difference as 4 CAs managed to get night against flag in Indo and sank Yokosuka and added 2 more damage to max out Sasebo. I figured both NLF would be able to reinforce Lae so I sent 2 marines plus 3 CVLs to Marshalls instead of SPO. I missed a chance to take Lae. My other marine and rest of fleet attacked CPO. Nick killed marine during day while his air power shot better than mine, leaving him with CVLs to chase. I did better than expected in chase rounds though. POC = 21
USN Report: I erred by not also patrolling Marshalls with an LBA as I intended, but Yamashiro whiffed against Indianapolis! I probably should've tried for day to face 2 shots from Zuiho, but this let me kill both ships. Nick easily controlled Indo. I shot better than expected vs. 5 LBA in Marianas but with better allocation could've killed all 5 instead of 3. Nick did disable all 3 patrolling CVLs and marine. Without 2 NLF in Indo I might've sent 2 marines to Marianas instead of one there and the other to CPO. My last marine had no choice but to go to SPO to kill Sasebo at Lae. POC = 15
USN Report: My lack of bases in Indo really hurt, and 3 LBA, Ryujo, and Taiho held it vs. 3 CVLs and 2 CVs. I killed Kure trying to dislodge 3 LBA in SPO and make it neutral. 3 LBA controlled Marshalls vs. Ashigara. WA and AL killed Chokai in CPO. With a CA patrolling NPO, 2 LBA didn't have to but disabled Yokosuka in AI. Hosho killed one of 4 patrolling 127 CAs in Marianas while 2 CVLs missed Myoko. Hosho killed a CVL round 2 but my CVLs killed her. Myoko got night round 3 but my CAs killed her. I was able to patrol just 7 CAs in JI. One BB out of the expected two also patrolled. Night on round 1 left me with 3 patrolling CAs, while I got rid of Unryu and Amagi and all but 2 CAs. Nick had 3 one-shot CVLs to shoot at my 3 CAs round 2. They missed while I got rid of 2 CVLs and 2 CAs. My CVs killed Chiyoda round 3. POC = 3 - 4 bid = -1
Nick played his usual tough game. I'm amazed I won after all my errors. Thanks Nick for another great game!
IJN Comment: Congratulations on your win in our VitP T10 match. It was a tough and interesting game that was not decided until the third round of combat on the last turn. Good luck in your future tournament games!
