USN Report: Mike Kaye and I have finished turn 1 of our VitP T10 match. Seven battleships were sunk at Pearl Harbor. West Virginia took maximum damage, but both cruisers and the LBA escaped unharmed. In Indonesia the 5th A.F. was shot down, but Prince of Wales and Repulse were both disabled in a first round day action (PoW suffered 1 point of damage).
Groups W and Z appeared in the Hawaiian Islands allowing 3 American carriers to base in Australia at the end of turn 1. The score is the usual 7 POC in favor of the IJN. The I-boat's torpedo missed the Hermes in the Bay of Bengal.
USN Endgame Comments: Mike Kaye has defeated me in our Top Ten VitP match. I was not able to prevent Mike's capture of Pearl Harbor (turn 3), Guadalcanal (turn 4), Midway (turn 6), and Dutch Harbor (turn 7), while his forces successfully blocked my attempt at recapturing the Philippines on turn 7. Mike's carriers and LBA had good success against my carriers, maintaining control of the Hawaiian Islands on turn 6 and sinking most of the American fleet carriers in the Marianas on turn 7. Without forward bases and relatively few operational carriers, I could not mount an effective offensive on turn 8 to overcome Mike's 20 POC lead (at the end of turn 7).
