The CPO Withdrawal, Free Pearl Harbor, and West Coast Bases adjustments are in play.
IJN Summary: Nick Markevich defeated Jim Eliason in our Top 10 match. We played with adjustments 2, 3a, and 5. After turn 7 the IJN had only a 6 POC lead with very little fleet, few bases, and a bid of 3. IJN BBs shot very well, but air attacks against US CVs and marines were poor. I didn't sink a US marine the whole game and disabled one only once. I'd estimate a final tally of +10 for the USN after applying the bid.
Turn 1 saw 5 BB, a CA and the 7AF escape Pearl--a very poor start to say the least. Turn 2 saw 3 American CVs go down to only one IJN, and things looked better, but that was it for good shooting. On turn 3 he got a crucial night in NP to sink a CV and recapture Dutch Harbor (thanks to adjustment 3a). Pearl Habor fell, but I lost 3 CV to his one. On turn 4 I recaptured Dutch Harbor, but four LBA in SP sank three more Japanese CVs. A raid of HI decontrolled the area with no damage to USN forces. On turn 5, he got night against the flag in IN allowing him to capture the Philippines, and night against the flag in SP allowing him to sink two more CVs with gunfire. The IJN got the better of the surface attrition, but the loss of the CVs cost me the area and let the turn 6 CVs into Indonesia. 3Mar in HI escaped 6 nonbonus and 3 bonus shots with snake eyes for damage. On turn 6, I sank 3 CVs and a BB, losing 2 LBA and a BB and lost only 1 POC, for the only good turn since turn 2. But on turn 7 the dam broke. He won all the DN rolls and sank 3 CV, 2 CA, and 4 LBA losing only 1 CV and a BB, and recaptured Pearl, the Philippines, and Midway. I made some mistakes on turns 4 and 5, and they could have been decisive had I rolled better. Nick had the better of the dice most of the game, but he played a good game and deserved to win more than I.
