USN Comments: We are almost done with T3. I personally feel that he is in bad shape in our game as his 1) POC is good after T2 (16) but should only be at 17 after T3 (if I win HI where I am a strong favorite going into a possible rd 3) which should be in the OK range.
2) His fleet has been hurt badly, including his 6 best CV's:
IJN losses-Akagi, Kaga, Shok, Zuik, Soryu, Hiryu, Ise, 2x436, 127, 118
USN losses-Sara, Horn, Enter, 2x553, 2x453, 3x443, 3xUSN CA's, 2xAussie CA's, POW, Rep
3) His base position is not so good either as I invaded Malo and flagged the Marsh this turn. I also landed a damaged marine on DH (Anders wanted to invade it from AI w/Kure but that is now out...he could invade Attu though because I still own that too). I also own Guad.
4) All areas are done except for HI. Anders has 2xhealthy LBA, Shoho, Zuiho, Hosho, 6xCA, 2 badly damaged BB's vs my 6xhealthy LBA , 5xCA, 3x453's. So I should win that and have a chance to further pound his carrier fleet. Also, Hiyo was based at Johnston after a missed speed roll so I hope to sink her next turn since she will be trapped.
Flags should end T3 as follows:
IJN-JI, Indo, Mari's, CPO, AI, NPO=10 POC
USN flags-BOB, IO, CS, USM, Marsh, HI(?)=9 POC
No control-SPO
POC should end at 17 POC after T3
Overall-W/o the conversion of Pearl and a large part of his carrier fleet gone, coupled with Marsh/Malo, Guad and DH, I should be able to contain the POC count since all home areas are mine and SPO/Marsh can fly Allied LBA. I figure that I win about 90% of the games when in this similar position.
IJN Surrender: Andy (USN) just beat Anders (IJN) at the end of T4., with IJN at +18
After T4 I've managed to lose the Marshalls, killed 3 CVs for the loss of 7 and have no perimeter and no controls or Home Port conversions. I made a complete mess of this game. Or rather, Andy made my game a complete mess.
Kudos to Andy for beating me up again. Some people I think I'll never get the measure of. :)
USN Endgame Comments: Thanks Anders! Don't worry, I am sure you will get the better of me at some time...How does 2027 sound? (-:
T2-The inability of the IJN to sink any CV's was critical to my success though. And then I sunk Kaga and Akagi!
T3-I was a little bit surprised you let me invade Malo AND flag the Marshalls (which gave me the block) w/o any fight at all. It helped me in my decision (Along with no IJN pats in the USM) to fight, and save, Pearl on that turn. You did what I have been guilty of several times, not making absolutely sure that you convert Pearl when you are doing a one-area attack. I am sure it will be some time before you leave yourself a little short on surface the next time. It just destroys your position in most games. I got lucky in my CV shooting as my 4 USN CV's sunk 4 IJN CV's while the IJN got 3 out of 4 CV's despite a greater number of shots. John Pack just taught me that Pearl lesson not too long ago! So blame him for this move...not me!
T4-The board looked ugly going into this turn for the IJN. The USN decides to let the IJN flag the USM as they looked to flag HI, SPO and the Marshalls. This enabled the USN to convert Johnston and Kwaj islands and provide a perimeter around the Allied home areas. The USN also flagged BOB, CS and the NPO while decontrolling the CPO (so JI could be raided on T5). Sinking 2xNLF's, 3xLBA's and the trapped Hiyo (was based in Johnston after a failed SR) just added to the IJN woes.
Misc-I also shot well in this game as the IJN 7 BEST CV's slipped beneath the waves. It has been a long time since I have seen that happen! After starting this Top Ten with 3 losses, I am happy to have pulled even at 4-4 (which included wins over the red hot Ed Menzel and Mike Kaye)!
Anders-I look forward to meeting you across the table! You are proving to be a very talented player that many players fear already. Congratulations on meeting the extremely tough qualifications of the Top Ten and best of luck in your next match!
