Final Allied Analysis: The real margin of victory in this game was 0.5 PoC -- I just got lucky to control the Japanese Islands for another 3 that I didn't really deserve. In the end, however, that 3 makes the difference in the ladder position. Mike's first round of fire in the Japanese Islands on the last turn was really bad and opened that window of opportunity for me. Ultimately, the game was won because I suffered so little attrition of my CVs on early turns (aside from Turn 1) and won a decisive night battle against superior IJN forces in the South Pacific Ocean on Turn 4. That victory wouldn't have been surprising in a day action, but it certainly was at night. Until that point the Turn 2 disaster in the Marshalls looked like it would doom me. Let me say that Mike is a wonderful opponent and showed what the IJN can do when it pulls out all the stops against a superior USN position. After my marines success on Turn 5, I figured this would be an easy win -- boy, was I ever wrong!
