Larry Meyers (IJN; Bid 4.5) vs. Greg Smith (USN)

The I-Boat Raid and CPO Withdrawal adjustments are in play.

Turn 2
Turn 7

Turn 2

USN Comments: Larry and Greg are in turn 3. Larry had a very good Pearl raid (only the Md(4d) and the SF escaped). So he went all out in the US and HI with patrols. Greg was forced to break control in one of those areas (the block in the Marshalls was not an option) and chose the US. It ws all settled in one Day followed by Night round. In the Day action Larry sunk two Cvs put one damage point and a disabled on another. Greg put max damage on the Zuikaku and sank the 1-1-8 patrollers and the Nagato. Larry shot poorly in the night action sinking only one USN Ca in spite of bringing to bear all of his six BBs. Greg got luck and sunk the Kaga and put max damage on the Akagi. He also sunk the Fuso and damaged a Ca. The POC is at 14 and Dutch harbor has fallen, but Lae still remains in USN control.

Turn 7

USN Endgame Comments: My game with Larry just ended at the end of turn 7. The USN failed to deny the IJN PoC in Japan in turn 7. The PoC stands at 16.5 after the bid at the end of turn 7 and the USN will be unable to patrol the Aleutians in turn 8. That means Larry has locked it up even if I control all but the Aleutians. It was a fun game. Larry had me on the ropes after great turn 1 air raids, but I denied him the TKO when I got Night in the US and shot up his carriers. They repaired though, and through a series of good IJN preference rolls and missed USN opportunities, I found myself down 29 PoC by turn 5. I still had a chance if I had not squandered away PoC by only patrolling one Ca in the Marshalls on turns 5 and 6 and failing to patrol Bengal on turn 7. Larry put out all 6 LBA in Japan in turn 7 over all his fleet as raiders. My only chance was to take my turn 6 carriers, my 11 Cas, and 4 BBs on a raid to Japan. He had a three ship wrap. Larry got Night in the first round and shot up my fleet. I got my chance at his LBA in round 2, but my 4 big carriers and 5 small carriers only splashed 3 of his LBA. Game over. Thanks for a great game, Larry!
