Turn 14

Two-timin' Sluggo and Da Boyz 'n da Gang (Pitt Crandlemire)

Purchases:
None

Dice:
Blue(5) Green(6) Black(5) Red(5) White(6)

Cop Movement:
- Cop #8 enters at SW5, Clark Street #10, #9, #8, #7 (facing Southeast Bypass #1)

Gang and Public Movement:
- Public x1 from Astoria House to North State Street #4, #3, #2, #1, SW2, Pussycat Club (criminal)
- Public x2 from Martin & Sons to Westside Drive #11, #10, #9, Gateway Ave. #1, #2, Greenwood Park (criminal)

Recruiting:
None

Extortion and Organized Crime:
- Thug at Sonny's Place: $500
- Public x1 at Pussycat Club: $500
- Public x2 at Greenwood Park: $400

Shootouts:
None

Money:
$4500 + $500 + $500 + $400 = $5900

This was a tough call. I felt I had the following choices:

Option 1:
Cop to Martin & Sons (raid and send Public x2 home)
Public x1 to Pussycat Club
Vamp to Derber

Pros: removes Martin & Sons as source of income
get my Vamp in range of Red Thug
leaves a Cop in range of Red Vamp for Green and Yellow
Cons: leaves Red gang intact
Red Thug is a 2, so a single Vamp doesn't kill him
puts my Vamp at risk to a Cop

Option 2:
Cop to Pinkie's Pan Fry (33% chance of hitting the Red Vamp)
Public x1 to Pussycat Club
Public x2 to Greenwood Park

Pros: only shot at reducing the Red gang
Cons: low odds of hitting the Vamp

Option 3:
New cop at SW5 to Clark Street 7
Public x1 to Pussycat Club
Public x2 to Greenwood Park

Pros: puts another, stronger Cop in range of Red Vamp
Cons: leaves Red gang intact for the moment

Since the primary goal has to be getting the best shot at hitting the Red Vamp (it being the most expensive to replace, as well as a potential source of income), I decided that Option 3 was my best bet.

The Viper comments:

I agree with Sluggo's decision to bring a new cop on to threaten the Red Vamp.

It's a pity; however, that he moved so fast. I was planning to offer him $700 to leave the Public x1 where it was -- that would have been $200 more for him plus more for the rest of us trying to stop Da Nose. It would also have freed up a move for another piece -- possibly earning more income with the vamp or setting it up to hit Da Nose.

I will, of course, extend da offah Ladykiller and I made last turn to him again -- a full 50-50 split of proceeds from public in the Astoria (should it make it back there) over two turns (i.e., another $1,200).

Good luck getting the right rolls for the coppahs!

Ladykiller and GreenPiece (Mark Love)

Purchases: None. Received $1200 transfer from Viper as agreed.

Dice:
Blue(1) Green(1) Black(4) Red(4) White(4)

Cop Movement:
- Cop #7 ta Broadway #6 (facing Broadway #7)

Gang and Public Movement:
Jeepers, I might be able ta get da Public X3 inta Brizelli's. Doesn't matter if Da Nose gets da X1 or da X3 inta Da Bus Station or Martin & Sons - he wins either way on a roll of 5 or 6. I smell his first 6.

Recruiting:
Recruit 4 racketeers for $300+400+500+600 = $1800
I expect dis is too late ta do any good, but who knows?

Extortion and Organized Crime:
- Thug at Strohm & Sons: $400
- Public x1 at Pussycat Club: $500 to my good buddy Sluggo
- Public x2 at Greenwood Park: $400 to my good buddy Sluggo, which should hand him 2nd place over Viper's 6 joints anticipated.

Shootouts:
None

Money:
$1200 start + $1200 transfer at start of turn - $1800 + $400 = $1000

The Viper and Da Yella Dawgz (John Pack)

Sluggo writes:

Also, while I'm thinking of it Viper, I'm sure you've alreasdy seen it but, just in case, unless you see a better move, may I respectfully suggest that you move the Public x2 out of Greenwood Park in such a way that Da Nose can't move it into any of his joints on his turn?

The Viper replied that'd he'd consider it among the other options for his one move.

I haz tah admit I sez two troublin' trends in dah streets o' Chicagah. 'N neither of 'em haz tah do wit Da Nose bein' close tah winnin it all. Dah firs' is the defeatist attitude o' Ladykiller who seems ready to give it up and is already plannin' who gets second place (which ain't worth diddly in dis game -- dere's no plaque and no points fer second). And while I can respect his buyin' more Racks, it's unlikely to help seein' as how dat piece is buried in a low-mobility joint. Dah second trend dat's worry'n me is dat Sluggo'z crossed da danger line ($6,000 cash, 7 joints, or 2 shy of monopoly) himself. Given dat he's gonna haul in more cash on my move and dat dah Nose only gots one move too, he may actually have a chance to win on his move should da Nose be stopped. Dat ain't good...

Course, first wez gotta stop Da Nose. Hopefully dah dice will cooperate wit us 'n deny him the public and extortion rolls he needs... Better still would be the right cop roll right now!

# The Viper purchases Brzkowski's Imports fer $400
# The dice are Blue, Green, Red, Black, and White respectively.

      2 5 1 6 5

Well, first impressions are dat duh coppahs ain't gonna be no use -- dat makes three rolls of 1 and one of 2 in dah last five moves. I don't even see how movin' dah current coppahs will increase chances in dah future...

So, a new coppah will entah at Subway #2 and move into raid dah Pussycat Club. Pussycat Club is removed as is the Public x1 inside it. At least it'll slow down dah #2 threat. It'll also help reduce dah chance dat dah x3 comes out.

Sad to say, my vamp has anuthuh wort'less roll. Dat means I only gets one move...

A quick analysis shows dat my othuh pieces are also out of range to attack anythin' important dat dah Nose holds or which would slow him down even dah slightest. Dat leaves two choices -- bring my Dawgz into range for next turn OR beef up a very expensive Racketeer ta secure more moves fer next turn in da hopes dat somethin' will be in range.

I'm gonna take dah first choice because it's more direct 'n because I can, at least, blow away somethin' dat Nose owns whilest doin' it ('n at dah same time scare dah public x2 back tah dah cup).

Da Dawgz leave Shelly's Barbershop (and dah $600 they could'a earned) 'n move up Central Avenue Bridge #3 - #2 - #1 - Palace Chophouse - Subway #2 changin' fer Subway #5 and intah Taylor's Machine Shop where they'll shoot it up wit' da joint guards.

Cash: $3,600 - $400 (Purchase) = $3,200
Sluggo's Cash: $6,800 + $400 (Organized Crime) = $7,200

# Da 4 Yella Dawgz (Thugs) shoot (5-6 Needed)
# vs. Taylor's Machine Shop (Level 1; 2 Guards; 4-6 Needed)

      6 5 4 1
      1 4

Da joint goes down fightin' -- da guards take two hits but dish one out in return. Yella Thug drops tah 3... Dah Public x2 also returns to dah Cup. (At least it won't make it over to Westgate Hotel on a roll of 2-6!) Sure is a pity Ladykiller vamped my Thug after I wuz no longer a threat to win...

The way I figure it, there's roughly a 38.1% chance that the game will continue beyond Da Nose's move -- that's the combined odds for no 5 or 6 on the public die and for an extortion total less than $800. Not promising, but possible. It's the possibility my move plans on (because there's no other choice).

Sadly, it looks like Sluggo should've taken Cop #2's small shot at Da Nose' Vamp last turn -- though the odds looked promising for the option he took. And, if da Nose doesn't get it, perhaps it'll still work for the best...

I love it when they squeal.

I never did get the public into the Bus Station, but I still think the game shows that money strategies trump building strategies in 4 player games, because no one can defend all their buildings. With so many thugs rolling dice, one is bound to reach your buildings. But money, ah, money stays in the treasury (as long as you can protect that vamp)!

Thank you for the game, John, Pitt and Mark. I hope you can improve your spelling in the future. Your game-playing needs no improving.

Congratulations to Mike "The Nose" Anchors!
