Ray Freeman has run the VITP tourney at Conquest (and prior to that, Pacificon) for 11 years and has dramatically increased the level of competition I first participated in 1989! VITP drew 15 players in 2001! There are dozens of excellent boardgame tournaments in addition to VITP (plus the best flea market I've ever seen)!

Conquest 2K is held annually at the Hyatt in Palo Alto, CA (20 minutes south of SFO airport) over Labor Day weekend. The VITP tournament is scheduled for four rounds beginning Friday at 7 pm and Saturday at 10 am. For more info on Conquest, see the con web page at: www.con-quest.com

The VITP tournament is run as a Swiss system, which means you can not be eliminated, although voluntary withdrawal is allowed. This system is great for those desiring to get four games in (or less if desired). All games are AREA rated. Players will be seeded into the event by AREA rating and the event will be scored/paired by US Chess Federation standard rules.

Sides will be determined by whatever method the two players agree upon; however, the official default will be by bidding for POC in 1/2 POC increments, the system used at the World Boardgaming Championships (formerly Avaloncon), the VITP PBEM World Championships, and the Midwest Open.

Rules used will be second edition, with clarifications as issued by Glenn Petroski, the GM of the VITP event at Avaloncon and the WBC. The first two PBEM adjustments are also used.
